What is a stop stick?

A stop stick, also known as a spike strip or tire deflation device, is a tool used by law enforcement and security personnel to safely stop a fleeing vehicle during a pursuit. It consists of a long strip of sharp spikes that puncture the tires of a vehicle when driven over. This causes the tires to rapidly deflate, ultimately bringing the vehicle to a stop.

Stop sticks are typically made of steel or hardened plastic and are designed to be deployed quickly and safely by law enforcement officers. They are often used in situations where high-speed pursuits present a danger to the public or law enforcement officers.

Stop sticks are effective in disabling a vehicle in a controlled manner, reducing the risk of a high-speed chase and potential accidents. However, they should only be used by trained personnel and with proper authorization to ensure safety and effectiveness.
